replace the hearth with light natural stone that is consistent in color with not much variation remove the fireplace surround and just have a larger fireplace opening no surround around the fireplace add a taupe limewash to the whole bumped out section of the wall replace the cabinet doors with a more modern look arch the bookcase make the cabinet at the bottom of the book case mahogany the stone should not extend up the wall around the fireplace there will be no fireplace surround only a hearth
