topography critical this is not a retaining wall in a steep landscape the project is located on a gentle natural hillside with a very soft slope approximately 8 12 the terrain falls gradually over a long distance because of this the gabion wall never feels tall or monumental although the visible height varies from 20 cm to approximately 150 cm the transition happens very gradually along the entire length of the wall the wall should always feel human in scale functioning as a continuous landscape bench rather than a large retaining structure avoid any impression of cliffs terraces abrupt level changes or massive engineering works the surrounding land should read as a smooth rolling hill with the wall gently emerging from the landscape the image should emphasize the relationship between people the gentle topography and the distant lake not the height of the wall
