keep everything the same only add a 4 inch deep marble ledge at the top of the backsplash directly under the range hood the ledge should be the same marble as the backsplash and countertop the ledge should run horizontally the full width of the range hood area and align with the bottom of the hood the ledge should have a square edge profile and look like a solid slab not a thin trim piece the marble ledge should project outward 4 inches from the wall and be about 2 inches thick creating a shadow line underneath it should look like a floating marble shelf integrated into the backsplash
